There are a couple of reasons I&#039;d suggest.  First (and perhaps most importantly) we in political parties have lost the confidence to ask people to join.  Second, the offer from political parties isn&#039;t as good as it perhaps once was - the Tories used to be able to offer you a life partner, and we were the political wing of the labour movement. And third joining a party often means learning to compromise, something that bloggers sometimes do well but often don&#039;t.</description>
